Domain Names and Google
Search Engine Ranking
In order
for your Web site to rank high in Google, it is useful to use key-words
that identify your company's products and services.
It
is known that Google gives a higher ranking to websites where
a search key-word (a word or combination of words searched in
Google) is part of the domain name:
For example, if you type the keywords 'Rome Hotels' in
Google, as you would do when searching for this type of service,
you will find that the highest ranking website has the relevant
key-words in its domain name:
What
this means to you is that when choosing your domain names(s) (note:You
can have more than one domain name pointing at your website),
you should
...
1.Include (if possible) the most important key-words
that best describe your business, or product range in the domain
name.
2.Try
to use secondary domain names to point to pecific pages within
your website.
3.
Secure your domain name in different extensions (example: .com
as well as.co.nz or .net.nz)
4.
Consider a third or fourth level domain name such as www.rome.hotelreservations.com
to point to specific pages of your website

Important
note: Google's SafeSearch feature is
created to filter out links to websites with adult content, and
therefore block any sites that contain even a string of letters
corresponding to adult key-words, this could result in a website
containing the word Essex being ranked lower because
of the string of letters contained within the domain name.
For
example Google SafeSearch marked as unsafe for children
the website PartsExpress.com which is an audio, video, and speaker
components site as well as JewishSussex.com etc.
As
SafeSearch can be enabled or disabled through a preferences page
which means that only certain users will find that these type
of 'screening' is applied to their searches.
