we are writing to advise all our customers that preparations are now underway for the start-up of the '.eu' TLD registration.

If your company exports or markets its products in the EU, you certainly can’t afford to be absent from this new zone.

Now is an excellent time to submit your '.eu' expression of interest with Domainz. The service is free of charge and will enable you to stay up to date with developments in this critical opening phase of the '.eu' registration process, and to ensure that you have the necessary registration documents ready to support your Domain Name application.

.EU Sunrise Period. A system used by registration authorities worldwide to combat cyber-squatting practices is called a “Sunrise Period”, this practice will be adopted for .Eu names as well.

The Sunrise period will offer an opportunity for organizations and businesses having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community, to register a domain name based on registered trademark names and company or product names.

Following the Sunrise period, registrations will then be open (first-come-first serve-basis) and still limited to businesses or organization established or represented in the EU or any person residing in any of the 25 member states.
 

Timetable for release of .EU domain name space.

 European Commission authorises the release .eu domain name space
21 March 2005 ICANN board approval
March 2005 Appointed validation agent for sunrise period
Mar/Apr 2005 engaged ADR suppliers and finalise ADR procedures
end of May 2005 Make available the registrar agreement, begin accrediting .eu registrars and publishing a list on the web site
June 2005 Publish proposed .eu Registration Policy for comment
Aug/Sept 2005 Make available the terms and condition of registration in official EU languages - including ADR provisions
4th Quarter 2005 Start phase 1 of sunrise (public bodies and holders of trademarks may apply for the corresponding name)
Start of sunrise + 2 months Start phase 2 of sunrise period (those eligible to apply in phase 1 plus holders of other rights  recognised in the national law of a member state may apply for the corresponding name)
start of sunrise + 4 months Sunrise period closes and registrations open on a first-come-first-served basis.
Validation of names applied for during sunrise continues until task completed
